If you are trying to have a relaxing get together where people can talk and socialize, you probably should not play heavy metal music. For this kind of party, you should play something mellow. The music should have acoustic instruments and singers with harmonious voices. The volume should be set low enough so that it is a background noise. It should never be loud enough to distract people from their conversations.
