I’m planning a birthday party for my husband this year. He’s turning 40, and I want it to be a party to remember. I’m planning on having our closest friends and family over for a really nice dinner party catered by our favorite Italian restaurant with plenty of food, drinks, and some good music for everyone to enjoy. I’ve tinkered with the idea of making this a surprise party, but I think that is going a little too far, plus he would know I was up to something. So I decided it would be best to let him in on the secret and tell him I was planning a party but to keep the big details to myself. I let him select the restaurant we would use to have catered, and of course he got to pick his favorite appetizers, entrees, and got to give me some direction on the flavor of the cake. I want him to have a wonderful birthday, so I wanted to make sure he was getting to make some of the decisions, but not have to mess with any of the details. And the party really is in the details! I’ve been planning a lot of fun ideas to make the house look great and to make sure my husband and all of our guests have a great time. I am kind of known for my party favors that I give out at our gatherings. I really want my guests to leave with a nice token of my appreciation and to have something fun they can remember the evening by. Since we are having our favorite Italian restaurant cater the party at our house, I figured I would run with that theme and serve some really good wine and Italian margaritas for the drinks. Since I was planning on serving some great wine, I decided that the party favors should be custom etched wine glasses. I ordered some red wine glasses that have “Happy 40th Birthday, David” on the glass and “Thank you for celebrating with us” etched around the base of the glass in a spiral. They look really great. I ordered enough glasses for everyone to take one home with them as a party favor. But that is not where the fun stops! I’m going to use the glasses as the container for a little goodie bag of gourmet specialty chocolates. I’ve ordered some really amazing chocolates, and will wrap a variety of chocolate pieces in festive tissue paper, and put cello wrap tied with ribbon around the little package of goodies, and put each wrapped package inside of the custom etched wine glass. I will set all of these on our buffet that is by our door and make sure everyone grabs one when they are leaving. I figure this is a great little party favor because all of our friends love chocolate and red wine. And when I send them home with a nice little wine glass, every time they use the custom etched glass later on, they will be reminded of the wonderful time they had celebrating my wonderful husband’s 40th birthday party!
